Residential roofing in Knoxville

You can only report what you can see from the ground, so this page is arranged that way: what you noticed, what it usually turns out to be, and which stage of the queue it starts at.

From the ground

What you can see, and what it usually is

Nobody rings a roofer with a diagnosis. They ring with a stain, a noise or a neighbour's skip. Find the row that sounds like yours — none of them commits you to anything.

  1. You can see

    A stain on the ceiling

Water has already been through the covering, the deck and the insulation. It is rarely entering directly above the stain.

    Start at Roof repair
  2. You can see

    Shingle tabs in the garden

Usually wind lift along one slope or one ridge line. Sometimes three tabs; sometimes the start of a claim.

    Start at Free inspection
  3. You can see

    Daylight through the roof

An opening. Covering it comes before everything else, and it gets photographed before it is covered.

    Start at Storm restoration
  4. You can see

    Granules collecting in the gutter

The shingle surface wearing out. On its own it is a planning problem rather than an emergency — but it dates the roof.

    Start at Roof replacement
  5. You can see

    Water running down the wall

Almost always the gutter, the fascia or the roof-to-wall flashing, not the field of the roof at all.

    Start at Gutters & downspouts
  6. You can see

Nothing — the neighbours are all being re-roofed

A regional hail or wind event. Worth a look, because a denied claim still sits on your record and adjusters work from dates.

    Start at Hurricane damage

Not sure which row is yours? Describe it on the phone instead — (865) 555-0172. We triage it there and tell you whether it is a tarp-tonight problem or a Tuesday problem.

Day 14–21

Three days of noise at the end of a month of paperwork

The build is the short part. You get told the night before, you get told when we arrive, and you get told when we leave — including on the day the weather moves it, which it will.

  • Soft or delaminated decking is photographed and priced while the crew is standing on it, and you approve the change before it happens.
  • Where a claim is involved you see the carrier's approved scope and the roof's actual needs in two columns, so you know which part of the number is your choice.
  • What is covered, for how long and what voids it is written into your contract in plain English before you sign it.
  • A magnet goes over the grass and the driveway before anybody leaves.

Straight answers

Residential roofing — the questions we get

Do I need a replacement or a repair?

Plenty of the roofs we look at need a repair, and the report says so. The honest test is age, the extent of the damage and whether the decking underneath is still sound — all three of which are visible in the photographs before anybody quotes a number.

What does a residential roof cost in Knoxville?

Most asphalt shingle replacements on an average Knoxville home land somewhere between $9,000 and $18,000, moved by size, pitch and what the decking turns out to be. Common repairs run between $350 and $1,500. You get an exact itemised figure after an inspection.

How much of the month is actually work on my house?

One to three days for most single-family roofs. The rest of the month is the adjuster's calendar and material lead times, and we tell you which days those are before they happen rather than letting you ring every morning.

What happens if the decking underneath is rotten?

We stop, photograph it, price it, and get your approval before carrying on. It is the most common surprise in this trade and the easiest one to handle honestly.

Do I have to have a claim to use you?

No. Repairs, replacements and gutters run through the same queue with the claim stage simply removed, which makes the whole thing about a fortnight shorter.
