Stage 04 The claim

Questions people actually ask

Most of them arrive in the same week — the one where the tarp is on, the adjuster has not been out, and nobody has told you what happens next. Answers here are what we can honestly say, which means some of them are "we cannot know that".

Straight answers

The sequence, and the waiting inside it

What order does this actually happen in?

Call, tarp, inspection, claim, scope, build, close-out. Seven stages across roughly a month, and two of those stretches are waiting rather than working. The menu on this site is that sequence, so wherever you are in it, the page you need is under that stage.

Why is nothing happening between day three and day nine?

Because an adjuster's calendar is the constraint, not ours. After a named storm one adjuster can be covering a whole parish. Your file is neither being ignored nor fast-tracked — it is queued behind several hundred roofs opened up on the same night.

Should I ring my carrier every morning?

It rarely moves the date, and we would rather tell you that than let you spend a week finding out. What does help is having the file complete before it is opened: dated photographs, a measured scope, and the shot of the damage taken before the tarp went on.

Will you tell me whether my claim will be approved?

No. Nobody outside your carrier can, and anybody who does is guessing with your money. We will tell you what is on your roof, what it costs to put right, and what the documentation shows.

Do you file the claim for me or negotiate with the adjuster?

We do not file on your behalf and we do not speak for you to your carrier. We give you a documented scope, we meet the adjuster on the roof so you are not arguing shingle damage on your own, and we tell you afterwards what we saw and said.

Why do you photograph the roof before putting the tarp on?

Because once a tarp is on, nobody can see what was underneath it. That before shot is the single document homeowners most often do not have, and it is the one an adjuster is most likely to ask for.

Is a tarp a repair?

No. A tarp is a decision to stop the damage growing while everything else takes its time. It is temporary by design, it is not weatherproof forever, and if it is still up in a month somebody should be telling you why.

What if the inspection finds nothing worth claiming?

Then the report says so, and you have spent nothing. A claim that gets denied still sits on your record, so knowing the roof is fine is a genuinely useful outcome rather than a wasted visit.

What should I keep a copy of?

The pre-tarp photographs, the full inspection set, the itemised scope, every change order, the certificate of completion, and the written terms of what your contractor stands behind. Ask for all of it in writing rather than relying on a conversation.

Why does this site not show a rating or a review count?

Because Granite Ridge Roofing is a fictional business built for a design demonstration, and a fictional business cannot hold a rating, a review count, a licence number or an accreditation. Rather than invent placeholders, this site publishes none — including in its structured data.

What should I ask a real roofer that this page cannot answer?

Their licence number and the register it can be checked on, a certificate of insurance sent directly by their carrier, the written warranty document rather than a headline term, and the name of the person who will actually be on your roof.

Before you ring

The five we get on almost every first call

Are roof inspections really free in Knoxville?

Yes — the walk, the photographs and the written verdict cost nothing and carry no obligation. You keep the photo set whether or not you hire us.

How fast can you get to my house?

Active leaks and storm openings get priority dispatch. Routine inspections are usually within a few working days. Call (865) 555-0172 and we will triage it on the phone rather than guessing.

Are you licensed and insured?

Granite Ridge Roofing is a fictional company built for a design demonstration, so it holds no licence, insurance or accreditation and this site does not claim any. When this template is used for a real contractor, their licence number, carrier and certificate of insurance belong here — and should be verifiable before you let anyone on your roof.

Do you help with insurance claims?

We document the damage, provide a measured scope, and meet your adjuster on the roof. We do not file for you, speak for you, or predict what your carrier will decide.

Do you offer financing?

Payment options are discussed with the written scope, alongside their actual cost. Nothing on this page states a rate, a term or an approval — those come from a lender, in writing, with your name on them.

Straight answers

The work itself: repairs, replacements, storms

What does a roof replacement cost in Knoxville?

Most asphalt shingle replacements on an average Knoxville home land somewhere between $9,000 and $18,000, moved by size, pitch and what the decking turns out to be. You get an exact itemised figure after an inspection, and the figure we quote is the figure we hold.

How long does it take?

One day for most single-family roofs, two or three for larger, steeper or cut-up roofs. The date is confirmed before anything is torn off, and it moves for rain rather than for optimism.

Will my insurance cover it?

That is your carrier's decision and nobody else's. What we can do is document the damage properly before the claim is looked at, and tell you frankly if what we found is unlikely to be worth opening one for.

What happens if the decking is bad?

We stop, photograph it, price it, and get your approval before we carry on. It is the single most common surprise in this trade and the easiest one to handle honestly.

What does a typical repair cost?

Common repairs — a failed pipe boot, a run of wind-lifted shingles, resealing a flashing — usually run between $350 and $1,500 around Knoxville. You get a firm price before any work begins.

There is a stain on my ceiling. Is that urgent?

Treat it as urgent. By the time water reaches drywall it has already been through decking and insulation. An inspection costs nothing and is usually available the same week.

Can you match my existing shingles?

Sometimes closely, sometimes not — colour lots drift and some lines are discontinued. We will show you the actual match before touching anything rather than after.

How do I know if my roof has storm damage?

From the ground you might see tabs in the yard, dented gutters or lifted ridge caps, but a lot of it is only visible close up. After a named storm or a hail event in Knoxville, an inspection is the only reliable answer.

Should I file before getting an inspection?

Usually it is worth looking first. If the damage is minor, a claim that gets denied still sits on your record. We document what is actually there so the decision is yours to make with evidence.

How long do I have to file?

It varies by policy and by event, and TN has had special claim windows after major hurricanes. Sooner is better: damage is easier to attribute, and a tarp is a temporary thing.

Describe what you can see from the ground. We will tell you whether this is a tarp-tonight problem or a Tuesday problem — and we will say so either way.
